Who is the God we serve?

Hello friends,

Today, let’s explore the fascinating and profound attributes of God. Understanding who God is can deepen our faith and help us grasp the fullness of His love, power, and presence in our lives. Here are some key attributes that define the nature of God:

1. Omnipotence (All-Powerful)

God’s omnipotence means He has unlimited power and can do anything that is in harmony with His nature. This attribute assures us that nothing is too difficult for God. In Jeremiah 32:17, it says, “Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.”

2. Omniscience (All-Knowing)

God knows everything—past, present, and future. His knowledge is perfect and complete. Psalm 139:1-4 beautifully expresses this: “O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.”

3. Omnipresence (Everywhere Present)

God is present everywhere at all times. This attribute means that we can never be separated from God’s presence. Psalm 139:7-10 states, “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!”

4. Holiness

God’s holiness means He is set apart, pure, and without sin. This attribute underscores God’s moral perfection and separation from evil. In Isaiah 6:3, the seraphim proclaim, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”

5. Love

God is love, and His love is unconditional and everlasting. This attribute shows us the depth of God’s care and affection for His creation. 1 John 4:8 tells us, “Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

6. Justice

God is just, meaning He is fair and righteous in all His dealings. His justice ensures that sin is punished and righteousness is rewarded. Deuteronomy 32:4 declares, “The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.”

7. Mercy

God’s mercy means He shows compassion and forgiveness to those who deserve punishment. Ephesians 2:4-5 reminds us, “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.”

8. Immutability (Unchanging)

God’s nature and character do not change over time. This attribute provides stability and assurance that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Malachi 3:6 says, “For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.”

9. Sovereignty

God’s sovereignty means He has supreme authority and control over all creation. He orchestrates everything according to His will and purpose. Romans 8:28 affirms, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Conclusion

Reflecting on these attributes can lead us to a deeper appreciation of who God is and how He relates to us. Let us hold onto these truths and allow them to guide our thoughts, actions, and faith journey.
